Highlights 2011

Year 2011 was a busy and productive year for the North-South Co-operation. Lahti-BPDM-Ho co-operation underwent changes in personnel and in administration; in South coordinators changed and more officials were involved in the activities through the working groups and technical teams.

Kari Porra, Environmental Director, City of Lahti, 7 min, January 2010

Mr. Porra tells about the background and the development of the co-operation between the City of Lahti and the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality. The co-operation has lasted over 10 years and has been a part of the North South Local Government Co-operation Programme since 2002.

Petrus Venter

Mr. Venter is in charge of the Integrated Biological Remediation program of the Hartbeespoort Dam. The remediation process at Lake Vesijärvi has been a model for the Dam’s remediation program. Juha Keto

Mr. Keto has been involved in the remediation efforts of the Hartbeespoort Dam long-term and is commenting on the progress made. Results so far are promising and a breakthrough has been made in water quality, but continuous action is still required.

Tikologo Makhoana
Director of water and sanitation, Moses Kotane, 2 min, November 2009

Mr. Makhoana talks about the water monitoring needs and situation in Moses Kotane and the help that has been received through the Lahti-Bojanala Platinum co-operation. Two portable water monitoring devices, colorimeters, have been located to Moses Kotane through the co-operation program.
